Moving, Resizing, and adding Elements
Step By Step

This tutorial assumes that you've used the program to set up a skin and want to move elements around within it. Although the images are from the previous version of steam, the information is basically the same.

Step 1: Go to Steam\Skins\SkinName\Steam\Cached Folder Right click on SteamRootDialog.res and Open With > NotePad


Step 2: Verify, everything is in the right place, right?


Step 3: If you haven't already, Start steam with your skins selected


Step 4: Click on the main window and hit+ctrl+alt+shift+b on your keyboard


Step 5: Comopare your SteamRootDialog.res with this Edit Window. Notice the title bar of the Edit Window says what file in which directory you are working with. The main element of a dialog box is the Frame
At the point of writing this, the Save Button DOES NOT work.


Step 6: With the Edit Box open you can click on parts of the dialog such as this games Button and see the same fields that are in the SteamRootDialog.res

Step 7: You can Click and Drag the elements around, which will result in a change in your Edit Box


Step: 8: Record your new xpos in your SteamRootDialog.res


Step: 9: Record your new ypos in your SteamRootDialog.res


Step: 10: To Resize an element, go to the width


Step: 11: Change the width


Step: 12: Hit Apply to see the change


Step: 13: See! it's smaller now.


Step: 24: Change the value for width of this element in SteamRootDialog.res
